February 20-22, 2026
Bringing Soul to the Role: A Three-Day Exploration of
Authority, Leadership, Responsibility, and Freedom of Care
A National Clinical Training Seminar
In the pressured world of healthcare, chaplains are asked to hold life, death, grief, and change—not only at the bedside, but within teams and institutions that are always in motion. Bringing Soul to the Role is a three-day retreat for chaplains and spiritual caregivers who sense that their work is shaped by a larger “field of care” and want language, frameworks, and community to explore it.
Through a carefully held mix of didactic input and experiential learning—dream matrices, small and large study groups, reflective case work, sacred walking paths in the desert, meditative practices, and playful “as-if” spaces—you’ll have a chance to notice how authority, leadership, responsibility, and freedom of care actually move in and through you, your teams, and your institutions. Together we’ll explore how concepts from Group Relations, neuropsychoanalysis, and depth psychology can deepen presence, expand empathy, and help you work more intentionally with complex systems, shadow dynamics, and the unknown.
You’ll leave with a clearer sense of your place in the system, renewed confidence in your own way of caring, and a community of colleagues committed to “bringing soul to the role” in the days ahead.
The working retreat will be held at the Spirit In The Desert https://spiritinthedesert.org/ in Carefree Arizona 30-45 minutes from the Phoenix Airport. Shuttes may be available. Prior to the event participants might want to arrange shared rides. A single passenger Uber ride is $50-$75.
